Otis Laury Nutritional Literacy Center: Advancing Health and Nutrition in West Virginia

In partnership with The Kanawha County Public Library and the Charleston Gazette-Mail, TMG’s creative team created and designed an art wall tribute as well as pull up banners, and wall graphics for the Nutritional Literacy Space in honor of Otis Laury, a well-known chef of several former West Virginia governors.

The Otis Laury Nutritional Literacy (OLNL) Center offers a vibrant and inclusive space dedicated to promoting healthy dietary habits, improving health outcomes, and fostering nutritional education for all West Virginians. Located on the third floor of the Kanawha County Public Library (KCPL) Main Branch, the center provides access to the Otis Laury Nutritional Literacy collection, nutritional literacy programming, and information about its namesake — Otis Laury. Whether you want to explore healthy recipes, join a class, or learn about food preparation and wellness, the Otis Laury Nutritional Literacy Center is your go-to hub.

Honoring Otis Laury: Chef, Artist, Mentor, and Community Leader

Otis Laury is a celebrated Charleston-based chef, entrepreneur, and artist, widely recognized for his work in promoting healthy lifestyles. He has operated several restaurants and catering businesses and served as executive chef for three West Virginia governors. His commitment to community health and food education earned him the title “Distinguished West Virginian” from governors Bob Wise and Joe Manchin.

Known as “West Virginia’s Renaissance Man,” Otis Laury is also a renowned painter and sculptor. He has spent decades mentoring youth on how to grow, cook, and serve nutritious food — making a lasting impact on generations of West Virginians.
